I can't tell how the DP1 compares to the compact cameras you mention, but I guess it's certainly at least in their class, but probably better (ok, it's not difficult to beat the Ricoh at ISO 1600). In terms of color rendering and dynamic range the new Foveon sensor is said to be outstanding (a fact which keeps my interest up). Anyway, no camera, not even the high end Nikon DSLRs, can compete with the best Canon DSLR modes in terms of high ISO noise.
