[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]I agree wholeheartedly on the fact that a good photograph should at least show some of the emotion/intention of the photographer (it's a part of his 'signature'), and I also think that it's perfectly possible for any kind of photography where the photographer has control over a number of factors (thus making it possible to reflect his emotion). But, for me, street photography is a reproductive photography where about everything is determined by others. This does not mean that street photography is emotionless, but I think that it is more the photographer's receptiveness to other's emotions that makes the shot. I believe that the photographer might make other photos of the same situation were he in a different state of mind, but that is more on an inconscient level than a deliberate one. It is true though that in his choice of wether or not making a certain photograph of a certain street situation, and in presenting it in a certain series, he can put a certain overall, personal and emotional message. Which in the best of cases, will evoke a (similar or different) emotion by the viewer. But I don't consider that to be the essence of street photography.
