Thomas Quasthoff is a fellow Hannoverian and a lovely person too (not that one mutually excludes the other :-) ). When it comes to baritones, Hermann Prey took a lot of beating too. I'm quite impressed with a CD of Brahms Deutsches Requiem I picked up the other day - BTW, has anyone heard the recent recording by Simon Rattle and Quasthoff? - Prague Philharmonic Choir, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinopoli, Lucia Popp and Wolfgang Brendel an excellent DG recording. Funny, Deutsche Grammophon was founded in Hannover , Emil Berliner worked just down the road from here. Come to think of it, Telefunken tape (wire ) recorders and the PAL TV system and Pelikan Pens are from Hannover too.
