However the driver for me is that I need to use film stock and chemicals that I can obtain locally and reliably. I do have one pro oriented source yet to check out. I can get one or two of the Ilfords (dev) and many of the Kodaks. I even found some (5 litres) of the fabled Xtol today. However, I'm heading interstate to visit my favoured (Leica) dealers in a few weeks, If I can source these interesting options and have the supply repeatable, I'll be thrilled to give it a go. Another gentleman LUG-er has referred me to a contact there for film/Leica goodies so I shall follow up. Thanks again Cheers Hoppy (shooting a little Astia in the M6 today) ------------------------------ Message: 5 Date: Thu, 22 Jun 2006 19:39:42 -0500 From: "Jeffery Smith" <jsmith342@cox.net> Subject: RE: [Leica] developers for BW negs to scan To: "'Leica Users Group'" <lug@leica-users.org> Message-ID: <001101c6965d$84e4a620$d94f0b44@newukolbqveo9i> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" If you like Ilford FP4+,you will love it in PMK Pyro. I've gotten on my soapbox too often on this forum extolling (not XTOLing) the virtues of PMK Pyro. Read my summary of it on my blog. http://400tx.blogspot.com/2006/06/pyro-developer-part-i.html and http://400tx.blogspot.com/2006/06/pyro-developer-part-ii.html Jeffery Smith New Orleans, LA http://www.400tx.com http://400tx.blogspot.com/ On 22/06/06, G Hopkinson <hoppyman@bigpond.net.au> wrote: > Folks I have read with interest some discussion on the perils of XTOL > storage and am also in the throes of getting back into BW via > developing then scan etc for print via inkjet. > > I am using primarily Ilford films and am playing thus far with FP4, > HP5 & the Delta 100 & 400s. > > Locally I have available ID11 (which I believe is identical to D76) > and much of Kodak's powder based developers (and no XTOL). > > > > Someone suggested in a previous thread that diluted options were > popular when the negs were to end up being scanned. > > As best as I understand it, using the diluted versions (1:1 or more) > may help with tonal range and shadow detail where my aim is to scan > the negs for printing. > > > > I would appreciate it if anyone could offer advice from their > experience on what has worked for them in this situation. > > Thus far I have used ID11 at full strength (and one shot).
