Soccer (football) is really only just increasing a little in profile locally, with other football codes dominating. It's amazing how unexpected success (cheering for the underdog) can generate patriotic fervour as well as a crop of instant experts amongst our sporting public. Reminds me of the America's Cup yachting. I would think that the number of players that are overseas based is an indication of their growing expertise and need to play with the "big boys" for development, remuneration etc. My (10yr old) son is off shortly for their local contest, their team currently being on top! Now if you want a challenge, try shooting the action with a 90 on your M. It was a truly impressive performance that earned Australia the 2-2 tie against Croatia, and they were robbed of two clear penalties during the game. Well done! In fact, watching Australia was kind of like watching a second England team, given that the majority of the players play in the English Premier League. It was especially satisfying to me to see Liverpool's Harry Kewell score the vital goal that made it 2-2.
