Great vehicle the Stalwart, as long as the waterproofing seals didn't 
perish - a set of ex-WD tyres would set you back the price of a brand 
new mini back in those days too.
We used to do the same on the East Coast, the beast tended to wallow a 
bit, nothing for the faint of stomach, and they weren't partial to salt 
water either.
If the Stalwart in Blackpool was painted bright yellow it may be the one 
I saw many years ago near Bispham, and again, along the coast near 
Heysham- oh how I loved that refreshing nettle beer.
Takes me back to memories of quite wild parties at the University of 
Lancaster too, and freezing half to death on Stalybridge station (change 
here for Stoke on Trent - where I was studying to become a Chartered 
Surveyor at the time)
