A laptop computer itself uses about as much electricity as a night light, a desktop uses about as much as a 60 w bulb. Would you leave a 60 w bulb on at your house if you were gone for 3 weeks? I doubt it. But you might leave on a night light. However more important is the damage that could be done to your data if something happens to your power lines. Shut it off if you are gone a Glitch ( regardless of your UPS ( uninterruptible power supply) size or quality) can get to your computer and make files or programs get scrambled.
