Subject: [Leica] 35 Summilux... choice

Frank,

I had the 35/1.4 aspheric and replaced it with a 35/1.4 pre-aspheric design.
The driving force behind the decision was the larger size of the 1.4 aspheric
for travel. The camera felt like a brick on my neck wheh walking for hours in
a new city. Yes the images are not as crisp at 1.4 but have their own
signature from this 1964 lens design. It is a good lens and improves further
when stopped down to 2.0 and 2.8. At f5.6, I can't hardly tell any difference.
I've never been dissapointed with it. It is small and in many cases, it has been
my lens of choice for Tri-X film when traveling. I sold my pre-aspheric 35/2
lens for the newer aspheric design years ago and wished the new lens was as
small as the older lens.

Best regards,

Richard Clompus
