The turn around was quite quick. Jim is an honorable fellow and will do the right thing by you. Your problems sound a lot like mine with my R8...which Leica can't seem to fix...Finally I got a voice mail from Brenda Oelsin saying they would exchange my R8 this past Friday...Yeah! Does the camera do this with out the winder on it? My R8 would lock up in either configuration, just did it more frequently with the winder on it than with out. > -With above state, open camera back and the camera comes back to life. This is what my camera did pretty much from day one...went into Leica 3 times (there for the 3rd time right now and at least they say they will exchange it now) and would fail immediately upon return to me (I personally think those guys up there have no clue as to how to work on these cameras or mine would not have failed after 3-5 rolls of film after repair every time). One question....Is the display on the back showing funny characters, or going totally blank? Mine did this a lot also and was one sign it was starting one of its "episodes". I know a lot of people on this list are going to try to flame about this, but I really don't care. Leica does not have its act together IME as far as the R8 is concerned. I know I am not the only one to have an R8 fail multiple times for the same problems...there simply is NO EXCUSE for this. Brag about the lenses all you want...If I can't get the photo because my camera ain't working I don't get paid. I can't have equipment that I can't trust. I've been rained on, shot at, run through hail storms, and generally beat the h*** out of Canon gear and it did not fail me once, my R8 would lock up while on a tripod waiting for a pretty sun rise.
