I had just picked up my latest prints shot with the lens. They were of the Golden Gate Bridge. Initially perusing the roll left me with the impression that this was an excellent lens. Your comments caused me to reanalyze what my results really were. Sure enough, I have to agree with you that the photos taken at inifinity focus weren't that good. They paled in sharpness and color rendition to my other lens I used that afternoon - a 16mm fisheye. The lenses were used at f8, approx. 1/500 shutter speed. However, I did notice that other shots where my focus was closer - 4 to 6 feet, both indoors and outdoors, were excellent. They are as sharp and contrasty as my 35 and 50 summicrons. I wonder if this lens is corrected for close range focus? Perhaps designing the macro feature on this lens caused suboptimal performance at infinity? Or maybe we haven't found the optimal aperature?
