Unfortunately, yes it is true. Also, unfortunately, the blasted adapters 
have the habit of loosening up just enough to break the electrical 
contact at the wrong time.

Since my M3 was acquired for use rather than collectibility, I opted for 
the ultimate solution and had the original sockets replaced with the PC 
type and, at the same time, the flashbulb socket sync was converted to 
electronic flash.
