My first Leica was given to me by my uncle in the late 1960s, and was a IIIf
with a Elmer 50mm f3.5 which I still have.

My first camera was a Kodak Retinette 1B, which I got in 1962 when I was 10
years old, which, too, I still have. My grandfather, who was the CEO of a
bank at that time, actually made me save the money for over a year and a bit
before getting it for me from London. In those days, a Deutschmark was equal
to a Rupee - Nowadays, a Euro is equal to 82 Rupees. Talk about having good
habits drilled into you at an early age!

Cheers
