The Basie Big Band must just be a marketing shell under that name today I cannot imagine the Basie Big Band without Count Basie, Freddie Green, Walter Page and Jo Jones, the greatest Big Band rhythm section in the history of jazz, with Lester "The Pres" Young/Herschel Evans/Illinois Jacquet/"Little Jazz" Roy Eldridge/Buck Clayton on the horns, and Lady Day or Jimmy Rushing or Joe Williams on vocals, the gang that came roaring out of Kansas City. Even the 1950s band, no slouch, pales in comparison. Here is a great reunion jam from Newport 1957, with both the greatest soloists that Basie ever had, Lester Young and Roy Eldridge, on Basie's signature tune, One O'Clock Jump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrsR2pMKoa8 The cover photo is Lester Young on Tenor, and Count Basie on Piano.
