I use a cheap Android Moto series phone from Lenovo, running Android, which
has not given me a minutes trouble in the 3.5 years I have had it. It
catches signals in the back of beyond, like in the depths of the Serengeti,
which Iphones and its expensive brethren fail miserably. That is because
these are designed to work in rural areas, catching faint signals, and
generally being rugged to a fault. It is also a 2 SIM instrument, so I can
always put a second prepaid local SIM card in when I travel.

Paired with an Ipad Mini, they do all that I could ever want. The only
things I want a phone for is calls, SMS, WhatsApp, and very occasional use
of Skype, Gmail and the camera. The Ipad takes care of everything else

Cheers
