The lowering of the top fascias may have also been a structural decision.? As the town's business dropped off, it has seen an influx of retirees who purchase and restore the older homes.? New storefront businesses have sprung up to serve that market.? There was always a competition between the two towns in the county;? Aberdeen got the courthouse, while Amory had the mainline railroad.? Amory was more aggressive in seeking new business, while Aberdeen wanted to remain "Old South".? Once Highway 45 was rerouted, bypassing Aberdeen, it has, in my opinion, just been marking time.? It has held on to the District Courthouse, and I think it added another courthouse of some sort. But, I've been away so long that I'm really out of touch.
