Subject: [Leica] Help with Epson Artisan 50

There?s no mechanism in the cartridge. The chip on it does two things. It
keeps track of how much ink is used so that Epson?s software can tell you
that it is time to replace the cartridge, and it prevents people from
refilling the cartridge to avoid paying Epson?s criminally high ink
prices. A filled cartridge will still show as ?empty? and the printer will
refuse to use it, thanks to the chip. There are companies that sell
chip-resetters to circumvent this.
