Forgive me, Aram, for I am no mathematician, but I cannot understand how
your friend can justify "very slightly". If I buy a ticket, the odds are 1
in 1 gazillion, which must (mathematically) be _infinitely_ better than zero
in 1 gazillion.

What I have misunderstood?

Piers

You know, Gerry, as a math teacher friend of mine says, your odds of
winning the lottery increase very slightly if you actually buy a ticket.
