I'm glad to hear that Tom has recovered and that you're determined to feed him up! I hope that Christmas week and beyond will pump him full of the good things in life and that that he'll be as perky as a kitten. 50 lbs is over 22 kilos and that's a lot to lose. He must have been through hell while he was sick. I didn't realise how bad the plague that hit him was and thought the hospitalisation might have been precautionary. It obviously wasn't! Wish him the best from me - and I'm sure the rest of us too.
