Hmm.  Thought that would work, but maybe that only works for built in 
drives.  You might try this freeware software:

http://nosleephd.codeplex.com/

See if that solves your problem as it will work with all drives, including 
external.


Curious if your built in drive goes to sleep with your current settings, or 
is it only your externals?

Yes, that was one of the fixes suggested by the Windows forums, but it
doesn't work.  I've tried setting it to never turn off and all various
times but nothing works.  Mine is My Custom Plan instead of Balanced and
right now I have it set to never turn off - still does, though.
