Jake Rubel kept the shoe "lasts" of his more prosperous customers so that, when the customer wanted a new pair of shoes, he would select a style and they would send in the lasts along with the order for a custom-made pair. Jake also managed to bring his brother and his family to the US around 1939. I grew up with the brother's son, Werner.
