Herb, I'm only 85, so I shouldn't try to give advice to my elders, but I 
will offer a few comments.  I find that daytime driving is no problem, 
and a lot less stressful than driving at night, so I try to time my 
errands, and even evening meals, a little earlier.  On my way home one 
evening last week, I noticed that the car behind me was driving without 
lights.  It is easy to forget the lights when there are street lights 
every half-block.  You might want to consider investing the insurance 
money in an inexpensive car to use for daytime errands.

Your cop story is certainly different from the ones that usually make 
the news these days.  You might consider a "Letter to the Editor" of the 
local paper, to show that the police do include some fine folks.
