Funny enough, the best oysters (and I love them) I have ever had was in the
UK this September?in the Loch Fynne restaurant by the shore of the lake of
the same name in Scotland. They were expensive but worth every penny (or
pound).

This thread makes me remember my days in graduate school at the University
of Florida in the late 1980s. Raw oyster were quite popular in the student
bars in town, and my cousin and I indulged freely. The thing is that
Gainesville is about 80 miles from either coast, and the place is HOT, so I
always wondered about the freshness of those oysters and the conditions in
which they had been kept. We just made sure we drank enough and convinced
ourselves that a sufficient alcohol intake would kill whatever bacteria were
present. It is a miracle that we survived.

Cheers,
Nathan
