Don't know for certain, but I would think if you bought the stand alone LR6
as a backup it would read the CC catalog just fine if you decided to jump
from the Adobe CC ship.  At least right now.  If at sometime down the road
Adobe puts forth a CC Mark II (Lightroom 7?) they would change the catalog
format and you would be sunk if no stand alone was available.  Every upgrade
from 1 to 6 has rewritten the catalog for me making all previous catalogs
worthless unless you reinstalled the older LR version.  So make a catalog
backup every time before you update your CC version.
