At least right now. If at sometime down the road Adobe puts forth a CC Mark II (Lightroom 7?) they would change the catalog format and you would be sunk if no stand alone was available. Every upgrade from 1 to 6 has rewritten the catalog for me making all previous catalogs worthless unless you reinstalled the older LR version. So make a catalog backup every time before you update your CC version.
