On my spendy/useless multi function grip it fits without machining. It makes
removing the camera from the tripod in-situ more awkward but that is not
likely to be an issue for me.

That is one long thread, but it looks like it may work.  The talk about
machining is a bit concerning but in summary I gather that is not necessary.
Now to find out RRS's return policy.....
