I start with Riga, where I spent 3 days in late April. My first visit to any of the three Baltic countries, a fascinating place with a troubled history, including decades of Soviet occupation. Riga is a curious blend of old and new, ugly and beautiful, but always interesting?and the people are friendly, the beer is good and everything is cheap.
