Nathan,
Colour for me, it is essential when photographing such festivals. The soul
can get captured very well in colour, look at Steve McCurry's work, IMHO
the best photographer of humans that has ever picked up a camera, and all
cross cultural souls at that. All you have to do is banish preconceived
notions from your mind!
