I agree.

I think the fact that the sunlight on the stone seems overexposed on the M 
Monochrom example;
which makes this a bit of an unfair comparison;
even thought the long, smooth tonal scale in the mid range and shadows is 
apparent.

Over exposure of the highlights with the M M really cannot be corrected very 
well in post processing.
