Subject: [Leica] Union Square Farmers Market

The Union Square farmers market is about two blocks from my university
office for 32 years. The market started about 25 years ago when the
Union Square area was gentrified. Just about everything is on sale. My
graduate assistant used to shop there every Friday to get weekend drugs
for her and her boyfriend. The name Union Square dates from the period
when union organizers, socialists, and various flavors of political
agitators used to stand on soap boxes and harangue crowds. The area
north of Union Square up to 23rd St. is New York's photographic ghetto.
Most of the working photographic studios, B&H, Tamarkin, Duggals, etc.
are located in or near this vicinity. Walk through the area at night
and you will see the flashes of strobe lights from many windows. People
used to joke that you could walk the streets carrying a Nikon F and
have a couple of Leicas hanging around your neck without people
thinking that you had just ripped off a camera store. Great restaurants
in the area too. Especially if you are on an expense account.

I'm downloading the photos from NYC. ?This was made at the farmer's
in Union Square. ?It must be Spring!

C&C greatly appreciated.

It's a very upscale, yuppie farmer's market with organic goat cheese and
pastured lamb and lots of organic hard apple cider. ?It was so totally
packed with people that it was hard to move. ?No problems with the
in this neighborhood!

Looks to posh to be a farmers market. I do like her outfit.
