Interesting that image #2 was withdrawn by the editors after they were 
informed that it had been stolen and misrepresented as original work. Follow 
the link that's highlighted in the comments section at the end of the piece, 
if only to see the dramatic image.

Amazing that anyone would think they could get away with plagiarizing a 
published photo on the internet these days... (And the Smithsonian editors 
even named the culprit!)
