It's because I'm importing at 360dpi (not ppi) which is the standard 
resolution for printing. 

Relative to Geoff's response, I don't see how this has any relevance to my 
initial question as it is the RAW file.

If you set LR preferences to import at 360dpi, your M8 file in pixel 
dimensions will be smaller, yes?

Like I said, I'm just a layman at this stuff. Perhaps worse, a Luddite!
