Dr. Ted,

Thanks to you especially for your advice!

My hope is to avoid any such unpleasantness in the first place by just
talking to folks. It's a cool little town and everyone I've met so far has
been really nice, and generous. I met one guy, maybe late 30s, who told me
he owns about 1/3 of the town. I was photographing one of his properties at
the time. He has degrees in aeronautics and works at the biggest research
facility in Antarctica 9 months out of the year. He was home for vacation
and to attend to some home projects. He invited me into the house he lives
in, talked about the local history, and was a geniunely lovely person. We
swapped contact info for the future. Nice people.
