Gerry did you check the local Hif-Fi shops? They might have an inexpensive
second hand unit in stock. There are a number of UK based web fora that have
for sale listings. HiFiWigwam.com, pinkfishmedia.net and artof sound come to
mind.

In any case, it will take some time, money and effort to re-commission a
record deck.

Thanks for your input everyone. I have realised that my amp does not have a
phone input, and to get the item required would cost around the ?120 ($180)
mark, and install yet another piece of hardware, so the turntable will
shortly be on the market. If anyone in the UK wants it let me know.
