I can attest that you will need Silverfast 8 to work on a Mac.  This means 
that if you buy an Epson V700 that has Silverfast SE 6.6 in the box, you 
will need to upgrade before you can use it. 

Silverfast advises that:

"SilverFast 8 runs natively on Intel Mac OS X systems from version 10.5 
(including 10.9 Mavericks). 32bit computers will be supported as well as 
64bit systems. Older versions of SilverFast (5.0 - 6.6) will not run under 
OS X 10.7 Lion or later!"
