Many of us who watch our precious gear go bouncing down the street never
admit it to anybody without a waterboard. The idea would seem to be those
kinds of things don't happen to serious photogs. We have to keep up a
front. Thing is if you're using your gear every day its only a matter of
time.
I fear for my gear. Not me.
I never worry about if a fall will take my wrist out (which it did last
year).
I've watched my Hasselblad go bouncing down the sidewalk in Canon Beach
Oregon the hood again as with your incident acted as a breakaway.
The camera had some scratches on it which are still there (a 500 CM) but it
didn't need to go to the shop.
My first M6 was resting peaceably on my banister at the bottom of the stairs
and fell off a 4 foot drop to a woodened floor. I had to get the mini screw
driver out and re adjust the vertical focus. No trip to the repair person
was needed I've been lucky.
Its the price we pay for using our gear.
Perhaps if we area famous photog the wear and tear on our gear adds resale
value to it.
