Had quite an interesting experience several years ago in Naples. We traveled
by train from Rome. Upon exiting the train, we headed for the central part
of the station to look for the Hertz rental car office. People everywhere
and about half of them were asking to "help" with our bags. There were four
of us - my spouse and our then six and ten year old sons. It was all we
could do to stay together and focus on finding Hertz! Anyway, we finally
realized that the Hertz office was two blocks away. After making it there
and renting our car, we ended up driving on several sidewalks to get to a
functioning road. Two hours later, we were dining on our terrace in Sorrento
overlooking the Bay of Naples so it was a good day!

Hope you got to eat at "Ciros", best octopus in the Med!

>We are on a week-long cruise around the Mediterranean. I do not
particularly enjoy the actual cruising part, but today we were in Napoli
(Naples), my first visit in this city. It is dirty, it has the Mafia, it has
dysfunctional politics, but it also has a wonderful atmosphere, and wall art
(not just graffiti) everywhere you look:

Napoli is my favourite city in Italy (and yes, I have been to Rome,
Florence, Venice, Milan, Turin etc.). Tomorrow we will be in Rome, and I am
frankly not looking forward to being herded around with the other cattle, I
mean tourists, in and around the Vatican etc.
