Sony bought the rights to Minolta dSLR lenses, and haven't done much to improve those old formulas. Zeiss makes Sony dSLR Alpha lenses, but they are very expensive. And perhaps the two best SP lenses for the Sony Alpha dSLR are the Sigma 50/1.4, and the newer Sigma 35/1.4. (oh, the humanity!!!!). I do admit though that Sigma and Tamron are getting better if the test results mean anything. They hold their own against Nikon or Canon kit lenses, but that can be faint praise. The alpha 850 is big, heavy, and unwieldy for freehand shooting, as is the Sigma 50/1.4 (though it is a good lens). One might have to use a Cotton Carrier brand vest to avoid lower back or shoulder pain. Like the threads seem to be implying of late, find a great lens, and then find a sensor to attach to the back of it. I'm patiently looking at the NEX offerings as they get more and more refined, but I'm probably going to always use an M8 for my Leica glass. I do have about 5 Zeiss/Contax dSLR lenses from the late 90's, and it would be nice to have a NEX FF to attach to them.
