This has been on the list many times, out of camera DNGs files are usually 
fairly low contrast (like a scan) so have more room to be manipulated into 
whatever you want - low contrast to high etc

Thanks, Henning.  I'll also say  I've seen a number of MM images I consider
to be flat yet yours seem to contain that deep black I crave.  Do you have
an explanation?
