Rolling my eyes - the ars folks are hyper-trendy in many respects. Many of
the remarks are made by anti-Apple folks or those who desperately want to
tinker with innards, gamers, the like. Reading Ars casually won't tell you a
lot.

I think, personally, this is an exciting machine but an expensive one for
those of us with legacy hardware.

Things they don't like you don't have to worry about:

upgrading graphics cards - not an issue. The graphics processors in these
machines have plenty of horsepower for anything you're likely to do until
you replace it. That's my take. Even if you do video, move to medium format
with 160 MB backs, you're going to be in good shape

memory - I'm not sure why there's a complaint about only having four sockets
worth of memory. 32 GB of error-correcting memory should do well, 64 would
be more than enough and 128 GB? OMG - maybe for Bob Adler doing 8 panel
panos with his Arca Swiss or something.

no internal hard drives - You'll connect from the computer to your Drobo and
other arrays via the Thunderbolt connection. You might need a Thunderbolt to
eSATA or FireWire box or hang your arrays of gigabit ethernet.

I think, mostly, it's kids hating Apple because that's "in" this year.

I'll be in the market for one of these, I think.
