Hi Gerry,

Can't say about the 60s, but in the late 40s - early 50s I played a number 
of gigs in college cafeterias where we set up at one end against a brick 
wall like that, and photos would have been very similar to yours.  Of 
course, we were much less well endowed with sound equipment. ;~)  (Five 
saxes, six brass, four rhythm)  The advent of small combos then killed off 
the big bands.
