Sounds like something organized. Reminds me of back in the 90s when Brussels 
was hit by a spate of car-jackings and break-ins into homes at night (while 
the inhabitants were at home), just to steal the keys to the car parked 
outside. The targets were expensive cars, and the gangs were from Eastern 
Europe. There was one incident when a car was hijacked with a baby in the 
back (the robbers did not notice it at the time of the theft). Later, they 
dropped off the baby, unharmed, at a medical facility, and continued on 
their way with the stolen car.
