This week found me in Polk County North Carolina which is about 45 minutes
south of Asheville. This part of the America's has been settled for some
time by American standards; the Revolutionary battlefield, Cowpens, is not
far away. Polk County is one of the few places I have been that continues
to use the original courthouse for most of it's functions; it was completed
in 1859 so survived the Civil War.

First up is the Newell post coming down from the second floor. I
appreciate the wear and repairs of 154 years of folks using it.

The next two are variations on the staircase:

Last, an image of the heart pine floors that are original to the
courthouse. These are just outside the main courtroom doors so all the
folks having that business in the courthouse have passed this way.

Another week of everyday items touched by humans.
