Subject: [Leica] Nathan's PAD 7/2/2013: back to the past

I lived in Brussels from 1995 to 2000. In many ways, these were some of the
happiest years of my life. Brussels, despite the crappy climate, is one of
the world's best places to live. So I always enjoy going back there. During
those visits there are certain places I always pass by. One of those places
is a second-hand bookshop in a neighbourhood of Ixelles called Matong?, or
Little Zaire. As the name implies, it is a place with many African
immigrants, but Brussels is a city where cultures very much mix, so you see
all kinds of people there. The bookshop is called Librairie Hankard. I
photographed it back in 2001, during one of my first visits back after
moving to Zurich:

On Thursday, I was in the neighbourhood again, and I was pleased to see that
the bookshop was still in business. I walked in, and chatted with the lady.
It turned out that her son-in-law works for the Benelux Intellectual
Property Office and therefore sometimes has to travel to Alicante to visit
the EU IP office where I work. It is a small world indeed. I had a nice chat
with her, bought a book (I am physically incapable of walking into this kind
of bookshop without buying a book), and took at picture:

Both pictures with Leica equipment: the 2001 picture with an M3 on Ilford
Delta 3200, this weeks picture with my M8.

Cheers,
Nathan
