I have tried to keep up with the flurry of comments about SD cards, but 
offer the following advice from a friend who works for one of the companies 
that makes these memory devices.  Take this (or not) for what is is worth:

1.  SD cards have a finite life.  They are rated for a limited number 
(albeit it high) of read/erase/write cycles.  Don't assume that they will 
last forever. 

2.  You get what you pay for.  A class 10 card should be more reliable and 
last longer than a class 4 card.  

3.  Backup is still the best protection against failure.
