Thank you for looking and commenting. The preponderance of smiling faces is
what made me post this set yesterday.

The AFS 24-85 f3.5-4.5G plastic has been my normal zoom for close to 10
years now - it is lightweight and a good performer - it is not especially
fast, and has distortion at either end, but nowadays that is so easy to
correct. I actually upgraded to the new 24-120 f4 - but I ended up selling
the new lens. Moral of the story - never buy a lens on a whim! Second moral
- plastic lenses can be good performers (even if they are made in China),
last as long as metal if looked after and they are lightweight! (-:

As an aside, Nikon seems to be blitzing India with unbelievable prices on
equipment. The new Nikon D5200 (24MP, APS-C) kit (with a 18-55 lens) is not
available yet in the USA, but I think the sale price is rumoured to be
around US$1200 (Rs.66,000). Amazon UK sells the kit for GBP785 (Rs.70,000)
and Cathay in Singapore for Sing$1400 (Rs.63,000). The kit in India has a
recommended list price of Rs.46000 list, Rs.42000 (US$ 765) from my dealer,
with a Nikon India guarantee! I bought two kits yesterday - one for a
friend in London, and another for a friend in Singapore. It seems only
yesterday that we would get all our equipment when we traveled out of the
country! What a welcome change!

Merry Christmas to all.

Cheers
Jayanand
