When those photos were taken I was teenager in New Orleans, which was just about to embark on its own struggle to racially integrate. The colors, especially, were evocative for me. Reminded me of some other southern photographers like Eggleston and Christenberry (though Parks was not southern). I loved the clothing as well. It's hard to remember that people used to dress like that, even poor folks, when they could.
