I convert all my file to dng when importing to LR, so not a problem.

I think you need quite a grunty computer to open the files easily. It takes
many times longer for LR4.1 to finish opening a 40MB compressed NEF than it
does a 40MB DNG file, and I am running SSD/eSATA both with +200MB/s and
plenty of RAM.....

Now I just have to convince SWMBO. ;)

I'd get yourself a D800 E or plain and don't sell the DMR R8. Its just a
whole different thing and has little to do with it. Have fun if you have the
money you deserve a great camera. The best camera you can get after a Leica
S or newer CMOS M9.
