Maybe Nathan's the expert to respond to this.

I have always loved gaspacho as made in Mexican restaurants in
California. My wife has for years made a very authentic version of
it. About a decade ago, we were on one of our several trips to Spain
and when dining in a hotel in Andalucia, I ordered gaspacho,
expecting something superb. What I got was an insipid tomato soup and
a tray was presented that had bits of various raw vegetables in small
compartments, with a miniature spoon for spooning these condiments
into the tomato soup. Disappointed, disappointed, disappointed.

So, tell me, Nathan. Was I in a lousy hotel, or is that the way it is in
Spain?
