Sorry Chris, but I have no reason to distrust NHTSA (as opposed to other 
gov't agencies) and I prefer a result of careful testing to anecdotal 
evidence.

Let's just agree to disagree. The "big cars are safer" myth is one I heard 
often when trying to figure out why people in the US insist of wasting 
energy the way they do.
