Whenever "feasible" and/or practical - I agree.

When a tripod is not "feasible" or practical -
Mono pod,
shoulder stock,
table top tripod on the chest, 
tree, stump, rock, wall, chair, knee, 
and if none of the above
Practice stillness,
hold breath,
posture - use of elbows on chest - pressing camera into face, etc.

Movement is not a friend of photography - except in swishy pans and fuzziNESS
Yet spontaneity is THE friend of photography

The balance between spontaneity and stillness remains the challenge.
