There is a much simpler way to do this - get Photokit Sharpener, and use
Edge Sharpen! That is what I have done. I experimented with masks, found it
too time consuming, then went out and purchased plug ins for Photoshop from
Photokit (long ago) and more recently Nik, which effectively automate the
masking process.
